Muppets and LCD Soundsystem together at last.

It's too bad this is an unofficial video, because most things muppet related I'm totally down for. I saw a headline for this and thought of when the Muppets did "Bohemian Rhapsody" which was incredible. Apparently it was filmed in Brighton, England. But really, look how happy everybody is! The Muppets are surely a uniting force!

Show review: George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic

Ohhhh yes sir. George Clinton and P-Funk. Here's the review I did for Philadelphia City Paper and a few pictures I took while there. No real good pictures of Clinton himself but a few good ones of P-Funk.

Preview new Panda Bear album, "Tomboy".

I've been liking this really long and slow reveal to Panda Bear's new album. I remember being in Barcelona and meeting a guy who let me listen to a leak of the "Tomboy" single last May during Primavera Sound. Then at his actual performance at Primavera he performed a few new tracks from the album (here's a soundboard recording of the set). Here's a video from that set as well (moments after giving up on getting the damn projection screen to work):

Now (thanks to GorillaVsBear for tip+image) you can take a listen to previews of some of the tracks we haven't heard much of yet over at Bookmat. Give 'er a listen!

Funny Tumblr page: Who Is Arcade Fire??!!?

For me, the Grammys have been the symbol of irrelevance in music awards. I don't know, it just wasn't for me. It just seemed like every year whatever single I heard most at parties, bars, or bowling alleys was usually part of album of the year.

Well as most of you have probably heard, the Arcade Fire won the Grammy for best album. I didn't really think much of it, but people are making a huge deal of it. I thought The Suburbs was a really good album and even though I don't think it was the best album of last year (Beach House's Teen Dream takes the cake for me), it's a stretch to say that it should be in the conversation.

Now we've got people reacting in all different sorts of ways. I saw an article on NPR talking about how most of the winners of awards came from indie labels which is interesting in some ways. People sure have been getting worked up about what "indie" means anymore. That shouldn't really matter though since a music's "indie-ness" shouldn't add or detract value from good or bad songs.

Regardless, once again, people are freaking out over weird stuff.

Ok, that was a pretty indulgent rant about what I'm really getting at. Someone took the time to monitor social network responses of people who never heard of The Arcade Fire and are pissed Lady Gaga or Eminem didn't win. I don't know, if you're going to do a claymation Super Bowl ad for iced tea, I think your hardness may come into question.

Shows shows shows...

I've been taking a long hard look at the show calendar that I'm building and man, am I psyched. Here's a list of the upcoming shows in the area that I think are noteworthy. If time allows, I'll try to hit every one. Here we go!

2/18 - Free Energy @ First Unitarian Church - Should be really fun.

2/24 - Beach House @ The Troc - sold out, but perhaps I can get myself on the guest list.

3/4 - Tennis, La Sera @ Johnny Brendas - really psyched about this one. Really really wanna go.

3/5 - Dum Dum Girls @Johnny Brendas - loooooooove these girls. I Will Be is on constant repeat.

3/19 - Godspeed You! Black Emporer @ The Troc - This one's a reach. Every music reviewer in the city is going to be trying to get in on this one. Gotta be forceful with that pitch. This thing sold out in about 10 minutes. Here's to hoping!

3/31 - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart @ The Church - Solid pop band should make for a pleasant evening.

4/4 - Destroyer, War on Drugs @ The Chuch - Solid lineup. Destroyer, I think, is one of the most underrated artists around right now. War on Drugs = another new and sick Philly band.

4/5 - Black Angels @ The Church - Saw them for the first time when I was 16. Drove into the city for the first time myself. Haven't seen em since, but always wanted to.

4/12 - Toro Y Moi @ The Church - Good.

4/13 - Acid Mother's Temple @ The Church - I've always heard so much about these shows, how it's one of the most wacky show experiences ever.

4/25 - Zola Jesus @ Johnny Brenda's - I saw her open for the xx back in October and I was completely blown away. I knew she was good, but she was incredible. Seeing her in a more intimate setting should be very, very intense. I would NOT miss this one.

4/28 - Titus Andronicus @ The Church - One of my favorite shows of all last year. Tons of energy, tons of pure, fun, "Springsteen" punk. The Monitor was for sure one of my favorite albums last year, and after hearing a lot about how they suck live I was really nervous. They were, for sure, one of the best acts at Primavera Fest in Barcelona.

Well I'll keep it at that for now. If anyone wants to come, get at me!
